Article discussing the interview study, part of the wider Autistic Experiences of Breast Cancer research project

My Weekly Interview 28/05/2024

Dr Char Goodwin discusses the importance of hearing directly from autistic people about their experiences of breast cancer.

Healthcare barriers exist for autistic people. When diagnosed with cancer, healthcare barriers can be experienced over and over, at each appointment, each procedure, treatment and interaction with healthcare professionals.

Understanding what the experience of breast cancer diagnosis and treatment is like for autistic people, directly from autistic people, is vital. Without doing this we will be unable to makes changes to cancer care that is beneficial and useful for autistic people.

The Autistic Experiences of Breast Cancer project will be doing just that.
